A C(2)-symmetric diethyl (i)Pr-bis(oxazoline)-Cu(OAc)(2).H(2)O was found to be an efficient catalyst for catalyzing an enantioselective Henry reaction between nitromethane and various aldehydes to provide beta-hydroxy nitroalkanes with high chemical yields (up to 95%) and enantiomeric excesses (up to 97%).

Isomerically pure enolsilanes of aryl ketones, acylpyrroles, and thioesters added to the azo-imide in greater than 95% ee. The use of an alcohol additive was critical to achieving catalyst turnover.

A series of complexes containing the iron-cyclopentadienone structure were prepared by cyclising bis-propargylic alcohols and their derivatives with iron pentacarbonyl. The resulting complexes were characterised and tested in the catalysis of ketone reduction and alcohol oxidation. The complexes are competent catalysts for ketone reduction and alcohol oxidations.
